The goal of this project is to create not only a fun practical way of learning math, but also to create something tangible for the kids to remember and use for a lifetime. The students will work in teams of four or five to recreate an important mathematical event in history. Some of the wonderful mathematicians students can choose from include Euclid, Einstein, Pascal, Pythagoras, and others. They will begin by using the internet to find information to base their presentations on. In the form of a Podcast, students will create an audio program on the chosen mathematician describing the time period to which they belong, the field of math to which they adhere, and the works that they have contributed to the world. The importance of this not only lies within mathematics but also the history and culture behind it.

With the Olympus Tool Factory Podcasting Grant and Site License we will bring our past mathematicians back to life. We will

1. Begin with a few general lessons using the TOOL FACTORY’S SIMPLE GUIDE TO PODCASING-BOOK/CD.
2. have the students use the internet to research our various mathematicians. While doing research the students may use the OLYMPUS DIGITAL VOICE RECORDERS to take voice notes. The flash drive on the recorders will also be used during this stage of the project. Some students will need to save material and transfer it to their personal share folder.
3. have the students use the WORKSHEET STATION planning sheets to layout out the storyboard for the podcast. Each group will then trade storyboard to check for flow before taking it to the teacher. Students will give teacher an updated storyboard along with original.
4. have students use the 3 HEADSETS AND MICROPHONES to record and listen to their podcasts.
5. have the students put a personal touch on their podcasts by using the CLIP ART STATION program. They will add sound clips to their podcast to make it more realistic.
6. have the students publish their podcasts in chronological order on the WEB PAGE STATION for other to access.
