Grade K
School: Flowertown Elementary School, Summerville, SC
Planned By: Robin Boehler
Original Author: Robin Boehler, Summerville
Age/Grade: 2, 3, 4 year olds
Objective: Preschoolers will increase receptive and expressive language and literacy skills through the creation and use of their own "All About Me" book.

1. Plan a visit to the preschooler's home; inform the parent that you wish to take pictures of the child, parent, home, toys, family members at home, etc.
2. Create a list of 'possible' photograph subjects or settings, especillay if there are any that you want to make sure are captured.
3. Take a digital camera, a notebook or index card, and a commercially published book on the theme of "self" with you on the home visit (ie: "I Like Me" by Nancy Carlson).
4. After meeting and talking with the parent and child, read the book you have brought with you (a copy will be left with the family). Use the book to talk with the child and parent about his/her characteristics, home, likes/dislikes/etc.
5. Take pictures of the child/home/parent/etc.; record notes about the pictures.
6. Before the next visit, print the pictures on photo paper or on white chardstock. Also, bind together the bottom edge of several gallon bags (can staple and then cover with thick book binding tape).
7. At the next visit, take the pictures, baggie-book, stickers for decorating, and markers for writing a caption. Discuss the pictures with the child; create captions using his/her ideas. Decorate a cover page and add decoations to other pages if desired.
8. Model for parent how to use the book to develop good language and literacy skills.
9. Successive visits: Review the book; edit/revise the book as necessary.
