Goals and Objectives
o By the end of the year, Students will -
1. understand and accomplish the effective use of a digital camera.
2. understand and accomplish the effective use of a publishing software to create electronic and printed materials to share with peers and family.
Lesson Activities:

„« Week 1
o Students will help to draft letter to parents explaining the projects aim and objectives.

o Students will also help to create a schedule of when it is their turn to take the camera home. Schedule will in part be based on special activities that the students might be participating at home (i.e a vacation, family gatherings, etc)

„« Week 2
o Students will be instructed in the correct handling and usage of digital camera through hands on demonstrations and opportunities to practice

„« Weeks 3-9
o Students will have opportunities to use cameras to document their experiences both at home and throughout their day at school. As students complete taking pictures, they will begin learning how to correctly import them into the computer and begin creating their presentations/scrapbooks.

„« Week 10-11
o Students will present their projects via PowerPoint to their peers.

„« Week 12
o Students will be able to practice reading their printed projects (if able) prior to taking them home to share with family and friends.

o National Educational Technology Standards (NETS)
Communication and Collaboration - Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. Students interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts or others employing a variety of digital environments and media, communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats, develop cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with learners of other cultures, contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems.
Research and Information Fluency - Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. Students plan strategies to guide inquiry, locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media, evaluate and select information sources and digital tools based on the appropriateness to specific tasks, and process data and report results.
Follow-Up
Students will follow up with informational books created within classroom and school by the students, such as a photo cookbook with a collection of recipes made by students for other students with disabilities, a "My School Rules" book that features each class and what is taught, school map and layout, school rules, etc.
