Technology + Creativity = A Passion For Learning

My students need an Elmo document camera to make learning more fun and interactive.

Do you remember your 2nd grade teacher? Maybe, maybe not. All I remember was the humming sound from the overhead, the sound of the pens as they wrote on the glass, the wonder of how large the texts could get projected, and of course when everyone tried to make hand puppets when she wasn't looking.

The first few years of elementary school are when we can make the most difference in a child by grabbing their attention and making learning fun for them! The more fun it is for them, the greater their chances they will graduate high school, and perhaps work towards a higher degree. The other options they have at home and in their communities are very limited.

The reason I am writing to you is to ask for your assistance in helping us to reach our goal of purchasing a document camera for my class. In today’s digital world, my students are well aware of the Internet and all the information you can find on it. I regularly utilize my laptop to reinforce my lesson, but imagine how hard it is for 30 kids to crowd around me and a 14” monitor screen. The disruption of them leaving their chairs to come to the screen, and then heading back to their desks, takes away from the lesson time.

Imagine my success as a teacher when I am able to project a map of the United States during a S.S. lesson. Being able to show them there is a difference between Washington, D.C. and Washington state. Most of my students have never left the city of CLT. If I could show them there is a much bigger world outside of CLT, even making a math lesson out of the distance from the U.S. to my home country of Hong Kong, I may be able to retain their interest in learning,and keep them excited about staying in school
