My students are of the digital age, and come predisposed to learn using an electronic device & at their own pace. By having a computer learning center in the classroom, they will be able to access our math, reading & tech skills programs and build the foundation for what's next in their future.

Students are in a high poverty school and love using electronic devices for their learning. In fact they are excited and ready to learn in those rare cases when they are able to use technology as part of the school day. I have seem the difference in their focus and level of engagement as they get to solve math problems or complete reading comprehension quizzes just by using an electronic device. Technology has become the paper and pencil of this generation of students, and as such, not having the devices in their classroom put them at a disadvantage. I want my students to be able to build the skills required to succeed in their school careers and beyond. Giving them more access to technology and educational technology programs will ensure that at least my students will have a fighting chance.

My students will use the computer as a center during math and reading blocks to access our ST math program and our accelerated reader programs. This will help me assess how the students are progressing individually and differentiate the lessons for each student based on their progress and level of comprehension. During the reading block time, I would be able to help my students select reading material based on their reading levels, challenge them to go to the next, and assess their performance. During the math block time I would be able to present lessons (puzzles) from the ST math program in class, and make the connection between the traditional math lesson and the puzzles so that students understand the concept for solving the puzzles. I would be able to assess how my students progress, and provide more individual attention to those students that are behind.

Having this computer center in the classroom will allow me to identify early those students that could fall behind, using actionable data to intervene early. I believe these devices will also engage the students more in the learning process. About 80%-90% of my students do not own a computer at home, and learning to use a computer has become a necessity for success in their student careers and beyond.

My Students Need 4 desktops computers for a computer learning center, that will be used to access math, reading and tech skill building programs
