My students have severe and multiple disabilities, they are non-speaking and communicate using iPads. Due to their physical and visual impairments many traditional vocational opportunities (Housekeeping, food service, groundservice, retail) are inaccessible to them. These students access learning primarily via their iPads and touchscreens. They need the opportunity to learn technology skills that will enable them to be competitive prospective employees in the domain they can access independently, which is using technology to communicate ideas and complete projects. To that end, we are raising money for a Dot and Dash Wonder Pack to give my students the power to control things in their environment through their iPads. This opportunity wil teach them invaluable skills about the power of their own actions that they can take with them to master other skills that will help them succeed in the workplace after graduation.
