When I came to Largo High School in 2016, the College and Career Center was being used as a storage room. The students didn't have a dedicated space to learn more about their college and career options. In the summer of 2016, I decided that this had to change. I had the room cleaned and discovered numerous resources that were packed away. We had SAT/ACT practice books, loads of college brochures and pamphlets and numerous other resources that the students could use on their college and career journey. Now, the College and Career Center has tables, chairs and shelves of information for ninth to twelfth graders. The only thing that's missing are computers. The four computers that we currently have are old, slow and work sporadically. The students aren't able to complete tasks using them. Computers will allow seniors to register for the SAT/ACT, apply to college, scholarships and search careers. They will allow all the other students to begin their college and career search early. Many of our students don't have computer access at home and having computers accessible in the college and career center, will create a "One Stop Shop" for all students as they prepare for life after high school.
