I teach middle school at Buhrer Dual Language in Cleveland, Ohio, where 99.9% of all middle school students qualify for free and reduced lunches.

It is a fact that middle school students in inner-city schools do not have the same technology access as counterpart students in suburban settings. In order to help
[1] close gap between students within Cuyahoga County in Ohio
[2] expand students knowledge on how to use technology to enhance their educational experiences and
[3] help students meet and exceed targeted standards,
I would like to receive a classroom set of 32 Dell Chromebooks (Grade C) with a Secure Charging Cart.
Common Core Standards for ELA and World Language Standards call for
[1] the use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others
[2] demonstration of sufficient command of keyboarding skills to type a minimum of three pages in a single sitting.
[3] conducting short research projects to answer a question, drawing on several sources and refocusing the inquiry when appropriate.
[4] the gathering of relevant information from multiple print and digital sources.

I truthfully believe that in order to help students acquire, meet and exceed the standards, we have to provide them with the necessary resources and tools. Unfortunately, that is not the case in our urban setting. Most of our students do not have accessibility at home to technology, and our school's accessibility during class instruction is limited. Currently, we have 1 computer for every 8 students. Not the ideal setting in a classroom.

The opportunity to have Chromebooks at hand in the classroom can help students engage in special assignments. In general, the accessibility of Chromebooks in the classroom creates a way to expand students educational horizons that otherwise would could not happen. It also leads the way for students to own their learning and walk beyond the horizons he/she may see at first glance.
Finally, the Dell Chromebooks in a cart is going to help me transport the Chromebooks from classroom to classroom, as I am an on-the-go teacher or traveling teacher.

Why I Teach: To help students understand that anyone can succeed. Anything and everything is possible if they work hard for it. All students should have the opportunity to dream high, high and above and be able to accomplish those dreams. Family history, ethnical backgrounds and financial situations don't have to stop students from accomplishing their dreams. It feels good to know that today I'm teaching my future teachers, doctors, lawyers, engineers, arquitects, nurses, and even the future president of the United States of America....
