The student population of our school is diverse and resilient. The students come from many different cultural and religious backgrounds, though they now all share a common experience. As a result of Hurricane Harvey, many of the students of our school were affected or completely displaced from their homes. Furthermore, the entire student body was displaced in a sense, as the school itself flooded and is now housed in a much smaller previously closed school campus. The students have displayed fortitude beyond their years during this trying transition. They have been a beacon for the families and faculty for how to roll with the punches and keep moving forward. As such, I wish to provide these amazing students with the technology they deserve in order to drive their education to its fullest potential.
This fundraiser is for the installation of a 70 inch Promethean ActivPanel on a cart in the classroom in order to create unique and interactive lessons across all subjects. The interactive component of this technology will allow students to actively take part in their educational process. Utilization of cross-over technologies in the future such as student response devices will further enrich the curriculum and allow for in-stream assessment. A technologically enriched classroom will better prepare our students for the classrooms and workplaces they will encounter going forward.
I wish to utilize the ActivPanel as a platform to create innovative and interactive digital learning and opportunities across all subjects. Utilizing presentation technologies such as Powerpoint and flip books will allow for more effective means of relaying information to the students. The ability to notate during a presentation will allow for clarification of concepts while those concepts are still front and center. These notations can also be saved for future reference for both remediation purposes and to improve upon the lessons for future use. Student involvement in lessons changes their role from that of a passive listener to active learner.
The interactive whiteboard technology has been shown to be an effective tool in classrooms for quite some time. Keeping students engaged with interactive technologies leads to more engaged students. The use of this ActivPanel in our classroom will make the learning of our students more relevant while also making them more active participants in their learning process. Once installed, the ActivPanel would be put to use immediately. I have multiple years of experience using different iterations of this technology. I am fully confident that the results of implementing this technology in my classroom would be seen rapidly.
