I am requesting a grant to purchase six iPad2 for our elementary art room. I currently have two iPads for our students to use as an enrichment tool, with the additional iPads we would actually be able to use them to create class projects. The two iPad2’s that we currently have in the art room are part of our creative thinking area and students are rotated through on a weekly basis. Although this option is better than nothing it is a limited art experience since each class has twenty plus students and only come to art once a week this really allows for every student to have access to create a “project” one time a year. With the six additional iPad2 students would be able to work in pairs or in groups of three’s and be actively participating in their learning. The iPad2 would be used for digital painting and drawing, exploring art history and photo manipulation. They would not take away from the traditional art production that we do in an elementary class but rather it will deepen the students artistic knowledge and their choices of media.
The art created on the iPad2 would be either uploaded on to our online art gallery Artsonia, as well as displaying it around the school - just like we like we do with the traditional art students create.
