Teachers must integrate technology into the curriculum in meaningful ways in order to promote the development of 21st century skills. Second grade teachers at Brassfield recognize the value of technology and are using this tool in social studies and writing.
In writing, second graders have used Build-a-Book. This tool allows students to type, record and illustrate their writing. Students also use Kid Blog to promote collaboration between parents, students, teachers and expert authors.
In Social Studies, students have created online posters on “Glogster” to display what they learned about government leaders. Power Point presentations have been used for students to teach each other about artifacts. This year, teachers also used Wall Wisher and online museums to help students locate artifacts and explain how they help us learn about the past.
In order for the second grade to continue to use technology, we need to gain more access to this important tool. Please help us bring more technology to our classrooms by donating to fulfill our “Digital Wish” of ten Netbooks for the second grade to share.
