Help bring technology to our classrooms. Tablets are a great tool for students with communication needs. Tablets can provide a tool to expand opportunities for communication and motivation to many students that have limited communication, social and cognitive skills. I am starting this fundraiser for my school's program that supports students in Special Education. We are a district program in a high poverty school district. Our program supports over 50 students from 1st grade up to age 22. Currently, we have 7 Social Learning Center Classrooms to support our students in meeting their IEP goals. Most of the students in our program qualify for Special Education as students with Autism or PDD. Our students’ communication skills vary from verbal to non-verbal skills. Some students use words, signs or gestures to communicate; other students use pictures or printed words to communicate their needs. It would be exciting to bring this to the next level and help integrate technology as a way to enhance communication in the lives of our students. We are a truly dedicated team of teachers who strive to bring effective tools to enhance our learning environments. We are very limited in the resources available, but understand the difference these tools can make in the classroom and community settings for our students. Tools, such as tablets, can be used as communication devices, learning tools for academics, video-modeling tools for social skills instruction, daily schedules and motivation tools as reinforcers for rewards. This fundraiser will allow us access to 2 mobile labs of 12 tablets each that can be shared among our classrooms. That would be 24 tablets to support over 50 students!
