In the first session of this project, students will choose their vacation location. They will also be given an overview of the Word templates created for their use.

In the second session of this project, students will be introduced to Diigo, a social bookmarking tool and create three bookmarks about their location.

In the third session, students will be introduced to Excel and how to create sheets to keep track of expenses.

In the fourth session, students will be introduced to the blog accounts they will use during the project.

In the fifth session, students will be introduced to Google Maps. They will learn to insert placemarks, HTML, and routes in the program.

In the sixth session, students will be introduced to Glogster, the last part of their project.

Students will follow the following steps to create their Dream Vacation Project after they have been introduced to all of the components.

Step 1: Choose your location

Pick three places you would like to research as part of this project.
You cannot do the same location as someone in your class.
Sign up on the clipboard.
Ms. Kraft will assign you one of your three choices by the end of the day.

Step 2: Plan your itinerary

Save this template to your H: Drive.
Fill in the information with where you will go on what days

Step 3: Research

Save this template to your H: Drive

You will need to include the following information in each section:
Date you accessed the website
Name of website
Website address
Information you are using from that website
Image you are using from that website
Image citation

Step 4: Firm up your itinerary

Using the information you found while researching, complete your itinerary with costs, mileage, etc.

Step 5: Budget

Sample Excel Workbook
Complete each section with the mileage and costs you have determined through your research.

Step 6: Map your route

Create placemarks for each place you stopped along your journey
Include the following:
Location Name
Address
Image (if you located one)
Short description of what you did while you were there

Step 7: Blog

This can be done while you are working on the other steps
There must be entries for the following:
Preparing for your trip
Each day you are traveling
Wrap-up

Step 8: Poster

Use Glogster to create a poster about your final location
This poster should include photographs and information that would make you want to go there
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Students will learn how to create a map and route (Geography), students will write blog entries (writing), students will research locations and prices, students will create a budget (math), and students will create a poster (visual arts).
