This lesson would not be a first day of the unit lesson. I would do this lesson after my students had taken notes and participated in discussion on language. When students would enter class, I would have them follow normal procedure by collecting their Chromebooks and opening them. Once the bell rang, I would go into class and open Kahoot. Kahoot is an online quiz game. Students type the code in each of their Chromebooks, read the question from the Promethean board, then chose the symbol for the correct answer on their Chromebook. If they get the question right, they are awarded points. Through the game, Kahoot tells the students on their computer what place they are in and if they got the question right. The teacher can see what percentage of students marked each letter as an answer. Next students would use their knowledge about languages to figure out from four languages what numbers 2-9 are. They will take turns going to the Promethean board, putting the words in the correct spaces. If I get the board, the software that comes with it will allow me to create a document that lets students drag the words in the box instead of writing them. After this assignment, students will contribute in groups of five to a Instagram template. Each of the five students will have a particular job to do before they leave the class on their groups Instagram template. They will pick something that puzzles them about languages.
Comments
Students already work very hard. It is time we find a way to make it more fun for them to do the work they were going to do anyways.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Students could use the board to edit each other's assignment or other group's work like they do in English.
Follow-Up
There are many interactive ways to get my students to the board to have them do the work.
