Desert Hot Springs High School
Hometown:
Palm Springs, CA
Class Information:
Room Number: 605
Students per Class: 95
Class Description:
I teach TV/Video Production, Media Literacy and Broadcast Journalism. I'm really lucky to have a terrific group of students, and due to use of so much equipment, usually NOT overcrowded classes.
Position:
Media Teacher
Needs:
WE always need video equipment, but right now I'd love to have Flip cameras. The Broadcast and filmmaking classes have nice cameras, but I hesitate to let the Media Literacy students use them, since they are not trained to operate them. Journalists and filmmakers must pass 6 weeks of camera exercises and quizzes. The Flip would help Media Literacy students be able to demonstrate techniques they ahve learned to observe by creating them on video, without possible damage to expensive cameras, without the need for additional equipment or tape media to digitize the footage.

Why Do I Teach?:
I was a part of alternative media for years, and finally had enough with the lack of integrity and journalistic ethics in mainstream media. So, I decided one way to effect change would be to teach up and coming journalists what ethics in media mean. Then I grew a passion for media literacy when began to see the lack of it in our society.
