Special needs students with mild to moderate (and one severe) disabilities. My students are in charge of our school gardens along with the 11 egg-laying hens we hatched in the classroom. We are a NASA Explorer School and participate in many aerospace activities including video conferencing with NASA. My students are talented in many subjects and fields, especially the arts and using technology to help them learn.
Position:
Special Education Teacher
Needs:
We really need a Hitachi Starboard to put more classroom lessons into "hands-on" experiences. The students will be able to go and interact with the lessons presented by touching and writing on the Starboard. For many of my children, this will allow them to be in charge of the depth of their learning!
My Philosophy:
The more children interact with life, the more the learn. My students hand raise chicks, plant vegetables, participate in community service projects, participate in online learning activities, paint murals at school, and explore the universe! I don't limit them and I don't want them to limit themselves. I believe that my students will help change the world to accept differences and appreciate everyone's gifts and talents.

Why Do I Teach?:
I love showing students the world. A world also available through books, exploration, and technology. I enjoy helping the children who have a difficult time, who need an alternative way to learn, who want to be part of everything life has to offer. State Standards are necessary, but so are the adventures of "spur-of-the-moment"learning opportunities.
