Class Information:
Room Number: 1
Students per Class: 17
Class Description:
My kindergarten class is a delightful mix of children. At present, there are 17 students, nine girls and eight boys. About half are English Language Learners. Some have had a year of preschool, but others have had none. They are eager, tireless learns, and very little stifles their enthusiasm.
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
Our classroom needs a technology update. We have two old mac computers for the children to use, and a computer for the business side of teaching, such as attendance and lunch count. We would like a document camera and a projector so we can use the latest technology to supplement our hands-on math program and our reading/language arts program. The children enjoy their hour a week in the computer lab, but would also like to experience technology in the classroom.
My Philosophy:
Children learn by example and by doing. Children learn enthusiasm if the teacher is enthusiatic and encouraging. They learn to help others by receiving help. They learn the joy of reading by hearing stories. An excellent teacher is the heart and soul of the learning process, because he/she transmits to the student the attitude needed to be an excellent student.

I also enjoy reading what my high school daughters are reading and discussing the books with them. My husband and I read a variety of books and enjoy the conversations, and sometimes debates, engendered by what we have read.
Favorite Quotes:
"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away." ----- Henry David Thoreau, Walden, Conclusion, 1854 Would you sell the colors of your sunset and the fragrance of your flowers, and the passionate wonder of your forest For a creed that will not let you dance? --Helene Johnson

Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because of the joy in the eyes of those eager young learners when they accomplish a task they have been working hard to learn. I teach kindergarten because I get to lay the foundation upon which all future education will be built. I teach because because it gives me the opportunity to make the world a better place, one student at a time.
