Beaver Area Middle School
Hometown:
Beaver, PA
Class Information:
Room Number: C-1
Students per Class: 123
Class Description:
I share my room with 5 groups of 8th scientists who are also digital natives. Since I am also working under a state grant as technology coach for my district as well, we are fortunate to have a full time sub as a team teacher in our room this year. Together, we work to plan interactive lessons and activities to give the kids real world experience with science. In my unique position as coach we also have access to several digital tools which allow us to demonstrate learning using a multi-media approach. In this way we can encourage the students to use their knowledge of the digital world to apply scientific concepts.
Position:
Teacher & Technology Coach
Needs:
At his point I would LOVE to have access to digital flip cameras to allow kids to be able to include real video of experiments, simulations, etc. in their products. I would also LOVE to have access to a set of interactive senteo "clickers" to use with my interactive whiteboard to allow for immediate response to needs and as a tool to effectively differentiate instruction.

Favorite Quotes:
"This thing we call "failure" is not the falling down, but the staying down." I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do. ~Edward Everett Hale "The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he's always doing both." Stuart Brown, "Play" (2009) “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”
Why Do I Teach?:
The digital age will be the turning point like no other. I want kids to know the impact they have and can make on the world now and in the future. I want them to understand that they can make a difference, they must be the change they want to see in the world. I teach because I want kids to be excited about learning, to be excited about possibility, to be excited with the potential they have. The future has never been so bright, so open, so full of choice...I want my students to be prepared to walk into the future with confidence knowing they are ready to create their place in the world.
