Class Description:
My class is made up of about 90% low income families. Some of them come from broken homes (foster, relatives, siblings etc instead of parents). The majority of my English language students come from illiterate homes, so reading and having technology for education is not common. My school is a Title 1 so my students get free meals (all 3).
Position:
Language Arts/ History/ Social Studies Teacher
Needs:
The 2 basic needs my class has right now are: 1. a computer station that stays in my room all the time. Currently I share a cart with another teacher and we must gather laptops and roll the cart every other period. Much time is spent in putting away and rolling the cart. 2. My second need is enough reading books to have an attractive library for my 8th graders to be interested in reading.
My Philosophy:
Education is not a privilege, it is a necessity for all developed nations. All students have the capacity to learn and become successful. One of my goals as a teacher is to make sure they discover their talents and hone their skills. I want them to be successful and to know they can do whatever they set their minds to.
