Class Description:
My students are very low income children, most from single parent or no parent homes. The school is very old and funds are extremely low. Most of these children come into school knowing very little about books or technology.

Needs:
The needs for my classroom are huge. Teaching these children will take a lot of expertise in the area of technology. I hope to fill my room with a variety of technology products that will enhance and make a difference in my students lives today and forever more. By using cameras, software, and other technology devices, I hope to bring my teaching alive and relevant to my students.
My Philosophy:
I believe that every child has a right to a great education. Although in real life all schools are not created equal, every child should have a right to the latest teaching methods and materials. Having the latest in technology products in the classroom can make the difference between success or failure for my students. The classroom may be the only chance that some of them will have for learning through the use of technology.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I am a wife, mother of 2, and grandmother of 2. I love teaching and also learning. I feel it is important for me not only to keep up with the latest technology of today, but to use it in my teaching.
College and Degrees:
I have a BS in Elementary Ed., a MS in Special Ed., a Literacy Coach degree, and a Reading Specialist degree.
Activities:
I love to walk, exercise, and read. I also love to serf the internet for the latest in technology for my students.
Favorite Books:
I love childrens books. I also enjoy reading and keeping up with the latest teaching strategies.
Interests:
I am interested in christian music. I am also a health nut so I am always reading the latest medical news.
Employment History:
I taught middle school LD students for my first 2 years. I then went into the severe/profound population for the next 5 years. After that I taught first grade for 3 years, then as I was working on my Literacy Coach degree and my Reading Specialist degree, I was a Literacy Coach for 3 years. I then moved to Fayetteville NC and taught kindergarten for one year and then back in the severe/profound population. I will be back in a first grade classroom for the new school year.
Why Do I Teach?:
I am moving to a first grade class in a very needy title one school for the 2010-2011 school year. Because funding is so tight, I am asking for some help to obtain technology products to better meet the needs of my students. Technology is the way of the future and my hope is that I will be able to impact the technology knowledge that my students will need to help them to be successful adults.
