Class Information:
Room Number: 4-102
Students per Class: 160 students
Class Description:
There are 2 sections of Photography One and 1 sections of Photo II, III, IV, Portfolio - Photo. There is one section of Portfolio I, II and IIIart and and AP Studio Art 2D. The first year photo students learn how to use the camera, process black and white film and make black and white prints in the darkroom. During this time I have the students working on developing their composition skills, learning about the history of photography and experimenting with alternative photo processes. The Advanced Photo Group develop their skills in photography with more time focused on digital work and image manipulation in PhotoShop. Theart students are 2nd, 3rd year and 4th year art students and the AP Studio Art 2D is open to juniors and seniors. The AP course is very demanding and I am working to increase my students success rate. The Advanced Photo groups are assigned 5 themed shoots each quarter and are to produce one strong composition for each assigned shoot. They learn how to mount and mat, build and use a pinhole camera, use alternative processes, hand make books, work with digital images on the computer using Photoshop and create a slide presentation at the end of the year about a process they learned in photography class. Adobe has donated 15 copies of Creative Suite and I need 15 digital cameras of the same make and model and 15 laptops (due to space constraint) for manipulating the images. I have no printers and grade digital images on the screen or the students send their work out for printing. Good printers will be next on my wish list.
Position:
Art/Photography Teacher
Needs:
I need 5 digital cameras, 10 memory cards, batteries and rechargers for the donated flashes, 5 tripods, 10 flash drives and 5 laptops and 6 Photoshop licenses. I need photo chemicals, film and black and white photo paper. The art students have almost no supplies, I need white drawing paper, watercolor paper, pastels, paints and fine tip markers. Drawing boards, paint brushes and related supplies.
My Philosophy:
I believe every student can create and should be given the opportunity to explore their ideas. All students can come better skilled and I push them to brainstorm, plan and create. Some students find it easier then others and for the others I wait as I know one day in class they will bring it all together and amaze us.
Personal Information:

I continue to take classes at night to improve my work which will help me improve my students work. College and Degrees:
I am National Board Certified in Early Adolescent/Young Adult Art. I have a BA in Art Education plus 45 hours of advanced course work.
Activities:
I continue to study art, taking studio classes and workshops whenever possible. I take at least one or two photography classes every year. This years are on flash photography, birds and developing a personal body of work to exhibit. I attended the National Advanced Placement Conference this summer. I teach workshops on photography to teachers at my high school and other art teachers in the school district. I am working on the renewal of my National Board Certification.

Employment History:

Why Do I Teach?:
As I teach the students they teach me. Most of the time they teach me a new way to see an idea or concept. They have taught me patience, how to juggle, act, laugh and cry. They urge me to show them new concepts and processes that they can explore and create their own answers to. They share their excitement of creating, sharing their results with all who want know about their solution.
