Westwood Middle School
Hometown:
Morgantown, WV
Class Information:
Room Number: 172
Students per Class: 127
Class Description:
I teach 5 periods of eighth grade science. My curriculum theme is Dynamic Earth! Under this theme, students learn about geology, plate tectonics, geological timeline and events, classification of the animal kingdom and lots more!!
Position:
8th Grade Science Teacher
Needs:
I use technology daily!!! All notes are given in powerpoint format. Students use computers to do labs and actively practice every step in the scientific method. A class set of laptops would contribute greatly to the success of student learning. My school currently has 3 working laptops in it only mobile lab. This is very unfortunate. Laptops are so old that keys are missing, and we are waiting for them to be fixed (if possible). We do not have the funds to buy a mobile lab.
My Philosophy:
To be a successful science teacher, I need to consistently engage my students in hands-on activities where they can practice science as a process. Asking questions, researching information, creating a hypotheses, creating experiments, performing experiments, collecting data, analyzing results and communicating results are the key actions I enforce my students to practice in my class. The use of technology, such as, laptops, smart boards, projection device, document camera, and great software help enhance this style of teaching. Students feel like they are actually doing what real scientists do! It truly inspires students with future career choices and they take a sense of pride in their work because it is presented in such a professional way!
