I like to keep my classes "down to earth." I like to make learning English skills and studying literature fun, advanced, varied and creative. I use many Kagan structures to get more students involved in their own learning. I also like to teach students to be creative and think "outside the box."
Position:
Language Arts Teacher
Needs:
I need more technology in the classroom. I would especially love to see Kindles or Nooks to reduce paper and get students to choose a more varied reading list.
My Philosophy:
Learning should be fun! All students can learn and it is our job as teachers to place them in situations where all have an opportunity to become leaders and innovators.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I have been teaching for fifteen years. I enjoy reading (of course!), learning, exercising and writing.
College and Degrees:
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education/Englishand a Masters of Education degree in Special Education.
Activities:
Helping others.
Favorite Books:
There are too many! Any book that can grab my attention within the first chapter. I am a fan of first-time novelists who have the skills of veterans.
Favorite Quotes:
"I want to put a ding in the universe" (Steve Jobs).
Interests:
Making a difference in the lives of others.
Workout out--which makes me healthier and better.
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I like to show high-school kids that English really isn't so bad and that they can be successful in a subject which they may think is ... horrid. I like to be quirky, entertaining, humorous and compassionate to help students succeed.
