Mt Vista Elementary School
Hometown:
La Quinta, CA
Class Information:
Room Number: 715
Students per Class: 32
Class Description:
My class is a self contained classroom (portable)with 32 students, 99% hispanic. Our 6th grade is located in an elementary school. We rotate for ELD (English Language Development) based on the students CELDT levels. We presently have 4 student computers and an LCD projector connected to the teacher's laptop, and NO wireless connection.
Position:
teacher
Needs:
While most of my students (90%) have computers at home, some are not connected to the internet. We are considered a middle school grade level , but located in an elementary school so we have limited technological resources.
My Philosophy:
Students need every opportunity possible to help prepare them for the technologicaly advanced society that they live in. (Other than the games systems most are familiar with.)
Personal Information:
About Me:
I have been teaching 6th grade for 11 years. I started my teaching career later in life after raising my own children to young adulthood.
College and Degrees:
I have continued my education and have obtained my Masters in the Art of Teaching. I am CLAD certified.
Activities:
I play "at" tennis and golf, but my real loves is reading while traveling. And when I am not working or reading I am searching for new things on my computer.
Favorite Books:
Too many to mention. Reccommend one and I will read it. My all time favorite is "The Giver."
Favorite Quotes:
"What more can I do" by Jim Hammond, my husband. I try to motivate my students to do more then the minimum requirement.
Interests:
Books, computers, puzzles and sudoku.
Employment History:
11 years of teaching 6th grade with the past 2 years of teaching the GATE students. That has been both fun and a challenge.
Why Do I Teach?:
Because I would like to be part of the solution, not the problem. And I think that kids need someone who wants to be there, not has to be there.
