Carolyn Park Middle School
Hometown:
Slidell, La
Class Information:
Room Number: 105
Students per Class: 22
Class Description:
The students I teach come from very diverse backgrounds. The majority of my students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds and have a low expectation for educational attainment. On the other hand, I have a classroom full of very creative students. They love to draw, paint, act and play games when ever they get a chance. They learn best through hands on activities, using manipulatives, and any activity that allows them to move around.
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
The everyday life of my students is filled with technology. Their basic means of entertainment include television, video games, and computers. For the students of today, technology is also a must in the classroom. It is what they are used to using as entertainment and a must to learn about their world. As it has been said, in order to teach them, you have to reach them. Filling my classroom with rich, technologic tools as a means to reach them will enhance their educational experience and develop that love for learning early in their educational careers.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I am the proud wife of a fireman and a mother of three beautiful children. I am also a first year teacher with a passion to be great at what I do.
College and Degrees:
I graduated from the University of New Orleans with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in May of 2007.
Favorite Quotes:
The expert in anything was once a beginner. I am not sure who said it, but I often refer to this quote on a poster hanging in my classroom.
Employment History:
Carolyn Park Middle School is my first employer as I am a first year teacher.
Why Do I Teach?:
I have really grown in my understanding that in order to teach a child, you must make a connection with them in some way. Whether that connection is made through a smile at their unique way of doing something, or just by understanding that they need you to care about them as much as how they do their work, the connection is most important. I feel that I possess the ability to make that connection with my students and that is why I love to teach.
