Our classroom is a collection of diverse learners. We utilize technology in all curriculum areas to enhance understanding and make learning fun. We are the 'technology pioneers" at our school and mentor our 1st grade technology buddies each month. Our work on ed.voicethread has been linked to the NC symphony website and the Wake County Public Schools Science Blackboard website. In March 2009 our teacher presented our work on ed.voicethread at the NC Technology In Education Symposium.

Needs:
We are in need of digital cameras so we can record our learning visually and create digitial storybooks about our learning. We are in need of ipod shuffles so we can listen to student-created podcasts, book talks and read alouds. We are in need of the pixie2 software so we can create amazing digital products
My Philosophy:
“You are educated. Your certification is in your degree. You may think of it as the ticket to the good life. Let me ask you to think of an alternative. Think of it as your ticket to change the world.” Tom Brokaw One of the best ways I have found to motivate students is through the use of technology. It allows for differentiation, collaboration, and creates life-long learners who will be equipped for futures in the 21st Century Workplace. The children of today are electronically focused. They use computers, ipods, and cellphones to access information instantaneously. Having access to such powerful informational tools means nothing if you don’t understand the possibilities of these resources. I embed technology into all of our curriculum areas by using such tools as classroom blogs, interactive websites, and field trip documentaries as ways for students to demonstrate their learning.

Why Do I Teach?:
Teaching is my passion. Spending the day in the company of children is a daily gift. The students are my beacons. In an uncertain world, they are the guiding light-- full of possibilities and hope. To be a part of a child’s day when they discover something new or complete a challenging task they thought impossible is priceless. In my classroom students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning. This leads to a classroom where new discoveries happen every day and students take ownership in their learning, feeling empowered to learn beyond the classroom walls.
