I teach Literacy 1 and Literacy II, as well as case manage approximately 20 students above my classroom students. In Literacy I, I work with students who are reading at the third grade level or below (high school students). We work on decoding, encoding, fluency, and comprehension. We also work on writing. In Literacy II, we work on fluency, comprehension, spelling, and writing.
Position:
Literacy/Special Education
Needs:
I only have two classroom computers, and they don't work the majority of the time. I would like tablets for my students so that I can have a group of students working independently in programs such as MobyMax or reading on the tablet while I work with another group of students on skill development. Working desktops or laptops would also be extremely beneficial in my classroom.
My Philosophy:
Every student has the ability to learn. It is my job as a teacher to find ways to engage each student and meet them where they are so that I can help them find success academically. Success breeds success - and once students feel successful and know they can succeed, they will begin to enjoy reading and writing.

I knew that my dual certifications (English/Special Education) would provide me with the knowledge and tools to help students who had all but given up.

Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I want every student to know that he or she can succeed academically. I work hard to foster a love for reading and writing. My passion is working with struggling readers and writers as well as at risk students.
