Hometown:
Avondale, AZ
Class Information:
Room Number: 623
Students per Class: 30
Class Description:
Our class is one full of inquisitive young people who enjoy learning and come to school each day with enthusiasm and excitement.
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
The needs of our students in this community are high due to the low income of many of our parents.
My Philosophy:
My philosophy is to promote self-investment...inother words, teaching young people that their education is something worthwhile that continues long after they leave my classroom and is an exciting and fascinating journey.
Personal Information:
About Me:
My favorite subject to teach is Writing, though I truly enjoy taking lessons from all subjects and crossing the curriculum. Since life is rarely divided into subjects, why should our classrooms be divided? Social Studies in Math, Science in Reading, etc. This way, students see connections between the many aspects of life.
College and Degrees:
I hold a degree in Elementary Education from Ottawa University with an emphasis on Language Arts and a minor emphasis on Social Studies.
Activities:
I am a teacher sponsor of Student Council as well as a member of the anti-bullying committee at our school. My educational passions include eco-friendly classrooms that conserve paper and recycle goods. I also strive to find a variety of ways to fund the needs of our school by researching and applying for grants and scholarships.
Favorite Books:
So many it's hard to name! I love the classics like "The Hobbit" and "Alice in Wonderland". One of my favorite books is "Watership Down", but this is only a handful.
Favorite Quotes:
By having a reverence for life, we enter into a spiritual relation with the world By practicing reverence for life we become good, deep, and alive. -Albert Schweitzer
Interests:
I love to travel around our beautiful state of Arizona as well as visit places in other parts of the U.S. I have visited Mississippi, New York, California, Colorado, and Texas to name a few. I have also spent time outside of the U.S. in Mexico, France, and Germany. I hope to continue these travels long into the future and learn about people in other places.
Employment History:
This is my fifth year of teaching and prior to this I worked as an accounting assistant for several years and also in administrative (office) work.
Why Do I Teach?:
I love inspiring young people to continue their education in the spirit of discovery. Life is a journey and one in which we all are fortunate to learn lessons that help us along the way.
