My Philosophy:
My philosophy of teaching is threefold. When children are "matched" to books they love, an important step and memory has been made toward creating lifetime readers. If lessons are relevant and accessible, and students are taught not just facts, but how to learn, they will be prepared for a future in which the curriculum and the vehicles for teaching that curriculum are constantly changing. Lastly, when children learn to sort and evaluate the masses of information that are available and then use the acquired information to solve problems and create new products and solutions, then they have achieved knowledge that can lead to successful futures for themselves and our world.

Why Do I Teach?:
I teach to help children of poverty gain the knowledge they need to have successful futures. I have many years of experience teaching in an inner-city school so I have come to know and appreciate the community. My own children attend school in a more affluent school so almost daily, I see large differences between the home and school lives of my children and my students. I work to find ways to provide my students with the same opportunities that my own children have received and will receive. The families of my students are eager for their children to succeed. My students want to learn. I want to help them achieve their goals.
