St Leonard School
Class Information:
Students per Class: 8
Class Description:
I have six boys and two girls in my current Kindergarten classroom. I have one child that has come into my classroom from a previous school and is repeating Kindergarten for the second time and is still struggling to significant learning differences. I also have one child that knows several different languages and even though he is in Kindergarten, he reads on a second grade level.
Position:
Kindergarten Teacher
Needs:
Currently I have 5 iPads in my classroom, however they are very outdated and do not always work. As the year has gone on, I am down to two technology devices in my classroom. I would love to have devices that my struggle students can use to help build the skills they need to continue to improve their learning, as well as devices that my students who are excelling can use to research items they are interested in so that when they finish their work, they are not bored, they have tool to use to continuing learning things they are passionate about.
My Philosophy:
My philosophy has always been that every student that comes into my classroom knows they are supported and I will do everything I can as their teacher to help them be successful. I have been teaching for six years and have always told my students and their families that once they have me as a teacher, they become a part of my family. I want my students to love coming to school and learning new ideas because they know they are loved, they are supported, and they will be successful.
Personal Information:
About Me:
My name is Ashley and I have been teaching for six years. I have taught Second grade, Preschool, and now Kindergarten. I love teaching, it has been a passion of mine since I was little. I love to help people, I love to encourage them, I love to support people and let them know they have someone on their side that is rooting for them. So for me, teaching was the perfect profession.
College and Degrees:
I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Lindsey Wilson College, a sweet little town in Columbia, Kentucky. Beginning in May I will be taking online classes from Lindsey Wilson to work towards my Masters as Teacher as Leader.
Activities:
I am not sure Pinterest is an activity, but I spend a lot of time on their looking for new ideas to and fun ways to incorporate lessons into my classrooms. I also love to read and journal.
Favorite Books:
The first book I read before my first year of teaching was "The First Days of School" by Harry Wong. It was insightful and had humor in it to help me realize that while students need structure and routines, they also need to know that you care about them. Teach like a Pirate, and The gifts of Imperfection are also some of my favorites.
Favorite Quotes:
Dr. Seuss has some of my favorite quotes that I have hanging around my classroom, " You're off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting...so get on your way!" "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose." "Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!
Interests:
Reading, crafting, decorating are some of my favorites. However football and basketball are a very close second!
Employment History:
I taught Second grade for four years, Preschool for one year, and now currently teach Kindergarten. Ialso have had odd and end jobs throughout the school year and summer. I have been a nanny and worked at a children's toy and book store.
Why Do I Teach?:
When I was in school, my second grade teacher made me want to become a teacher. She had such an enthusiasm for her job. Even as an eight year old, I never felt like teaching was her job, it always felt more like her passion. She wanted every child in her classroom to be successful and reach their full potential. This is what ignited a passion for myself to want to become a teacher. I participated in our Elementary Internship Program at my high school and working with the elementary students at my school, further demonstrated that teaching was the career path I wanted to follow. I wanted to be able to help and encourage every child that stepped foot into my classroom.
