I serve Transition aged students (18-22) with significant disabiliities. We are a "Community Based Program" emphasizing independence in the Community, Employment, and Adult Living Skills. The community is our classroom. Students use public transportation daily to access job training, community college classes and various other public places (library, stores, musuems, etc.)
Position:
Transition Coordinator
Needs:
Since we are always on the go and many of my students have difficulty with written and verbal communication technology is very helpful in allowing my students to become as independent as possible. The ipad has been the single most valuble device for my students, however my program only has one ipad for 10-15 students.
My Philosophy:
Community Based Programs are essential for student success in the work place and in community settings. I believe in individualized transitoin programing for students with disabilities.
