Why Do I Teach?:
I grew up in a poor, small, rural community; I was blessed with parents who, not finishing high school themselves, wanted - and demanded - more for and of me: finish high school, go to college, become and do something. I was also blessed with teachers who expected the same: no excuses for doing less than my best. One in particular, my English 11 teacher, Mrs. Francis Morris, was especially hard - driving, and I've always been thankful to have her as a teacher and would like to be as great a teacher as she was. This is why I teach: I want to be my students' Mrs. Morris, and give them, who are growing up in a poor, rural area, many with parents who did not go on beyond high school, the same ideas, opportunities, and expectations. They can and they will succeed.
