Standard Digital Camera Lab, $2799.00, 0.00% raised
Standard Digital Camera Lab Rank:
Single Unit Why I need this:
Last year, another teacher and I implemented a project with our 5th grade Science Club students called "Watershed Watchers." The purpose of the project was to get students out of the building and into their local environment. The project allowed students to study all aspects of Booker Creek, which is located behind our school, from where it begins in Booker Lake to where it drains into Tampa Bay. Students began the year by learning about their local watershed and how Booker Creek fits into it. In addition, they learned the basics or water quality, plant and animal collection and identification, habitat restoration and photography. As part of the photography component, we took our students to a local Middle School where the Journalism teacher and some of her students taught our students about how to take good pictures. They absolutely loved the experience, but the problem was that our school's digital cameras are so old (and slow!) that our pictures didn't look as nice as they should have. Some of our students loved the photography portion of Science Club so much that they chose to go to that specific Middle School for the Journalism classes. I would love to have a set of nice cameras to really showcase our students' work as we prepare to begin another year of Watershed Watchers.
