Class Description:
My classes are largely made up of seniors. My students are, on the whole, really good kids who have had few of the advantages I had when growing up in an upper middle class, mostly white suburban community. According to statewide economic ratings Hardee County ranks number four in the state poverty rate at 26.1% with the unemployment rate at 10.30%. Any advantage that I can provide to my students is so helpful!

Needs:
We are trying to bring our classrooms into the 21st century, but funding is tight. As it should, money and, therefore, technology goes to areas of greatest need - reading, math, and science. Funds are also targeted towards 9th and 10th grade. Those areas provide the biggest "bang for the buck". As a social Science teacher, working with seniors, my classroom is a lower priority. I am scheduled to have a Promethian Board installed in my classroom soon. An iPad would allow me to really utilize all of the resources available to me through some great apps that are free, or very inexpensive!

I think that teaching is the most necessary and honorable of the professions. I only wish that others in the US saw things that way.
