Personal Information:
About Me:
I have been teaching preschoolers since I graduated from college 17 years ago. This is my 8th year teaching preschoolers with special needs. I took 5 yrs off from teaching in the school system to stay home with my own children.
College and Degrees:
I graduated from East Carolina University in 1994 with a degree in Early Childhood. I recieved my Birth-KindergartenCertification from UNCC.
Activities:
I love spending time with my family, traveling, making home made materials for my classroom and learning more about various disabilities.
Why Do I Teach?:
I am extremely passionate about teaching preschoolers with special needs. My classroom consists of children with autism, Down syndrome and other various developmental delays. It is truly rewarding to see these children learn and begin to talk. Most of my students are nonverbal and by providing them with various tools to communicate, they become excited about learning and proud of themselves! We work on labeling objects in our environment, answering simple yes/no questions, social greetings and much more. At the end of the day, I am tired but excited and proud at all the growth that is made on a daily basis!
