Dunbar Twp Elementary School
Hometown:
Connellsville, PA
Class Information:
Room Number: 212
Students per Class: 22
Class Description:
I teach 5th grade Math, Science, and Language Arts. I have 22 students in my homeroom and teach 22 students from another class. We recently received a Polyvision board that we love to use!
Position:
Elementary teacher
Needs:
We are in a low- income rural area. We need everything from new technology to glue sticks.
My Philosophy:
My philosophy of education is that every child can learn if they have a commitment from educatiors, parents, and the community to inspire them to become successful life-long learners in an ever-changing technological society.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I am a teacher, wife, and mother of a daughter who is 29 years old. The loss of my son, who was 26 at the time of his death, was the most darkest and devastating experience of my life. My family, my students, and my love of teaching has kept my desire for life alive.
College and Degrees:
I started college when my youngest reached kindergarten age. I was very nervous being 30 years old and starting college with much younger students. I soon found out that I was the norm and made a lot of good "younger" friends. I attended California University of Pennsylvania for 4 1/2 years. I would put my children on the bus in the morning for school and make it to class 30 minutes away. I am proud to say I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education.
Activities:
I am involved with my church activities and school functions.
Favorite Books:
I can only find time to read for enjoyment during the summer months. I enjoy a good James Patterson story or a thrilling John Saul book.
Favorite Quotes:
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
Interests:
I love anything to do with the outdoors. I plant flowers, have a vegetable garden, and a compost pile. I enjoy taking a walk and swimming every day the sun is out. I also have a love for antiques. An antique store can keep me occupied for quite awhile.
Employment History:
When I was younger I had a few jobs. I worked in a Dairy Queen, a restaurant, and a trucking company. After having children, and earning my degree, I was a substitute teacher for any district in the area. I was finally hired by my local school district in 1997.
Why Do I Teach?:
I think teaching children to be well rounded citizens with many opportunitites to take advantage of, and hopefully to become lifelong learners is a job like no other. I like to think I will somehow have an impact on my students' lives. Children come to my classroom with all different backgrounds. Hopefully, school can be a pleasant experience for them, and at least one good part of their day.
