About Me:
I will start my 25th year teaching with this school year. With the exception of four years at Spring High School, I have experienced 21 wonderful years at Jersey Village High School. Through those years I have worked with an amazing number of students whom have left Jersey Village High School for successful careers, in and out of the field of Journalism. I do have the honor of being the former teacher of the Pulitzer Prize winner in Breaking News Photography for 2008. I believe that student journalism can: Promote self esteem and literacy. Provide students with a chance to learn responsibility, new skills which can later be integrated with classroom studies. Encourage students to become leaders in their school. Provide students the chance to exercise problem solving and leadership skills. Give students the opportunity to refine their interpersonal skills and meet deadlines. Expose students to new points of view while also requiring them to be neutral. Exercise critical thinking skills in a real world setting . (Borrowed from the Maine Center for Student Journalism) I have a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism degree from The University of Houston. During my college years I was editor of my junior college’s yearbooks and the editor of the yearbook at the University of Houston. I am married and have two daughters. The older daughter is married and lives in Houston, while the younger daughter left for college this year. That leaves my husband and me at home with the two dogs, and the cat. I look forward to teaching every student that will enter my classroom this year. I would hope that as a Journalism teacher that the door to communication stays open between my students and me and between their parents and/or guardians and me. I do truly love Jersey Village High School.
