My Philosophy:
I begin with the belief that every student can learn. I have a strong commitment to the individual learning of each student that I teach and to the improvement of our ability to compete in an international market in the areas of math and science. I believe that improvement on the national level must come, one student at a time. Middle school is often the first exposure to specialized math and science curriculums. These curriculums must challenge students to rise to the level of the content without alienating them from their ability to experience success. The method to bridging this gap is differentiation. There should be regular exposure to hands-on, lecture, oral and written expression in order to make the material accessible to all students and to meet the unique needs of each indivudual middle school student. In addition to the subject specific curriculum, I believe that all teachers have the responsibility to integrate study skills. Strong note-taking, test-taking and organizational skills are the hallmarks of success in school. By teaching these skills within every curriculum, I have the goal of creating successful students who are life-long leraners, equipped with the skills to pursue their individual interests.
Personal Information:
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I still enjoy the science that I teach. I get such enjoyment from the creative process of presenting concepts in a way that can be grasped by middle schoolers and that amazes them the way it does me. I want the kids to feel about science the way I do; to inspire them to make them life-long learners and observers.
