I work with autistic students, students with sensory processing problems, students with learning and attention disabilities, as well as students with motor coordination difficulties within a public school setting. Many of our students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds with relatively few resources at home.
Position:
OT
Needs:
I would like to use popular technology media to teach students skills, such as motor coordination and eye traacking skills. At the present time I am using materials that I make myself that are not as motivating to students as technology would be. I would like to use motor coordination games like "DDR" and "WII" as well as "Guitar Hero" and "Flash Focus" for Nintendo DS. These devices address many of the skills we are working on with students in a much more appealing manner, which would lead to more frequent practice and greater improvement.
My Philosophy:
Motivation is 9/10 of learning.
