Class Information:
Students per Class: 12
Class Description:
I am a District 75 middle school teacher to an awesome group of 12 special needs students in a Title I economically disadvantaged school in the Bronx, New York. Each student is a special individual who complements my classroom with their own personality and culture. My students have a wide range of identified needs such as learning delays, developmental delays, autism, ADHD, and physical impairments. Most of them are also English Language Learners.
Position:
Special Education Teacher
Needs:
Some of my students have a device or tablet at home, however transporting these devices to and from school can become cumbersome and difficult for them. These mini ipads would be a tremendous contribution to our classroom learning. With these iPads, students can be more independent, using it to speak if nonverbal and completing learning activities while data is taken. Each individual iPad will allow for my students to work independently on reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and social-emotional learning with interactive apps and programs. Any donations made to this project will make a significant difference in the lives of not just the children that are in my classroom this school year, but also all the students that will come into my classroom in the future. Please help me provide more opportunities for practice on updated technology!
My Philosophy:
My students with diverse abilities have the ability to thrive to their best potential with support in an equity-driven environment. I strongly believe that each individual with a disability is entitled to the support necessary to maximize his/her potential given the resources. At school, they just need that extra outlet to know that they deserve to have the very best, just like any other student.
