About Me:
I have taught regular, inclusion, and Honors 7th grade Language Arts classes in the Mobile County Public School System for the past seven years. I taught at Hankins Middle for 5 years, where I received a grant through the New Teacher Academy for a literary magazine and was awarded Adminstrator's Teacher of the Year. I was the BBSST school facilitator, which identified and supported at-risk students. In 2009 I received my master's degree in Educational Media and transferred to Burns Middle School. Using my knowledge and background with underprivledged and at-risk students, educational media, and language arts, I helped found the Student and Filmmaker Alliance (SAFA) in 2009, which is a film and writing cooperation between students and local community filmmakers. This year, I started the BMS Film Club at my school, where students are participating in local film competitions and hosting and filming the SAFA 2011 Story Starter Competition. In the future I plan to expand SAFA to incorporate more schools and create a thriving creative writing, acting, and filmmaking community amongst young adults.
