Oakwood School
Hometown:
Oakhurst
Class Information:
Students per Class: 7
Class Description:
Our class is self-contained and is composed of a very diverse mixture of students ranging from grades 9-12. Every student is classified, ranging from high-functioning austim, to oppositional defiance disorder, and school phopbic. Oakwood is a very caring and nurturing environment and each class is its own family. Our guys look up to us and in return we do everything we can for them.
Position:
Social Studies Teacher
Needs:
Due to limited finances are school is not very technologically advanced and becuase of the "types" of students we instruct, we are often over-looked when it comes to funding. Our classroom could really use either a projector that we could hook up to my laptop or a SMART board which will allow me to greatly enhance my students' learning experience. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
My Philosophy:
One of my biggest beliefs is that teachers need to diversify their teaching strategies to ensure each student is provided the best chance at success. I also believe that technology should be integrated into every classroom for two reasons: 1) It greatly enhances the teaching methods and learning capability of students, and 2) It will provide a chance for students to practice the proper use of technology in our advanced society.

Why Do I Teach?:
I want to instill the same passion I have for History in my students by providing and educational and entertaining school experience. I hope to prevent students from seeing History as "boring," but rather as an integral part of our society. Working with special needs students (the majority of which are considered behavioral problem students) it is key to relate every topic to them rather than simply lecture and make them read from a book. I teach to ensure these students get their best chance rather than simply be "pushed through" the system.
