Through another grant, my students received iPads. We use Brainpop, Discovery education, StudyJams, and many other sites to help students better understand concepts being taught. The headphones will allow each student to concentrate on the audio of his or her individual iPads. Currently, we use them without headphones and students are easily distracted by the audio coming from other devices.

Class Description:
I have a class 8 girls and 7 boys. All of my students are eligible for free lunch this school year. They are an excellent group of well-behaved students, who become easily bored with routine tasks and textbooks.

Needs:
I need headphones and two laptops to help my students stay actively engaged in our curriculum. The students will use their iPads and headphones when watching videos, completing web quests and quizzes, reading eBooks and more. One laptop will be to connect to my SMARTboard for interactive use and the other will be for student use.
My Philosophy:
I believe in a teacher's ability to create lifelong learners. At the rate of change in our times, it is more important than ever for us to instill in our children that they are capable of constantly changing and learning more. By providing my students with structured, yet flexible, environment for learning, they feel safe to take risks in their education. As the teacher, it is my job to provide the nurturing environment needed, but to also step back and allow students to take responsibility for their learning.

Why Do I Teach?:
I am a third grade teacher at a Title One school in Ville Platte, Louisiana. I am also the mother of a 2nd grader and a 5th grader and the wife of a high school teacher. Education is the passion of my family. I am an avid grant writer and always looking for ways to improve my classroom, my school, and my parish.
