John Kelley Elementary School
Hometown:
Palm Springs, CA
Class Information:
Room Number: 39
Students per Class: 32
Class Description:
I teach at a Title I school in which over 75% of the students come from low-income families. Our school is in a low-income area and does not even have the technology to support the required curriculum that the students need. The families in our area can barely afford to eat, and most students do not come with school supplies. If there is something we as teachers need for our classroom that is not deemed a `necessity` we must buy it ourselves or go without. I purchase most all my school supplies for my classroom, including pencils, crayons, markers, paper, notebooks, erasers, folders, etc. I have had the unique opportunity to teach this group of students going on my 3rd year (I taught them in 3rd grade, then moved to 4th grade, and will be moving with them to 5th grade). They deserve an equal opportunity to the curriculum.
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
We desperately need an LCD projector so we can fully integrate our newly adopted math curriculum. With a projector our students can directly interact in our daily math lessons. In the future we would also like a document viewer to display our problem of the day.
My Philosophy:
Every student can learn and has an equal opportunity to learn. I have watched these student progress the past 3 years and they all have the capacity to achieve their dreams. I have not and will not ever expect anything but the best from them and will work as hard as I have to watch them succeed.
Personal Information:
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I feel it was what I was meant to do. I can't explain it, but at the same time I couldn't imagine doing anything else. It has become my passion, and my goal is to watch my students succeed.
