Cottonwood Plains Elem School
Hometown:
Fort Collins, Colorado
Class Information:
Room Number: Classroom 4C, R
Students per Class: 29
Class Description:
Our classroom is diverse in many ways. As individuals we bring many different learning styles to our '4C family." We are mixed in ethnicity, economic opportunities, and life experiences. From our many differences, we are learning to share ideas and extend the understandings we each have. We collaborate daily and work collectively to problem solve. We are an engaged and innovative group.
Position:
4th Grade Teacher
Needs:
Our primary need in our classroom is technology. The Web 2.0 digital generation has arrived and our classroom has limited technology access. We have two computers in our classroom for 29 students. Although we do have a computer lab in our school, because we have 450 students in our building, our classroom has regular access to this lab just one hour a week. Of that time, the state has many required computer driven assessments that take up our computer lab time at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year. The Flip Cams we are hoping for will greatly increase our hands-on exposure and access to digital devices.
My Philosophy:
Schools can close the digital divide between our students and the culture they are growing into. The world of our students is immersed in digital technology, yet many of our classrooms in the United States still rely on an overhead projector as the dominate technology tool for instruction. With help from our communities in providing Web 2.0 technologies to our classrooms, teachers can support all children to build the skills they need to navigate and become successful in the digital age of this 21st Century.
