Class Description:
I teach 75 students in a total of three classes: 6th Grade GT Math, 7th Grade GT Math, and Algebra I Honors (8th grade).
Position:
GT Math / Algebra I Honors Teacher
Needs:
Our school is in a rural section of Laurens County in South Carolina. As most other teachers have experienced, budget cuts have left us with no money to spend on materials for the classroom. In today's digital world, it is important that all students have access to current technology to remain competitive in both the college and job markets. Our state standards require my students to be able to successfully master certain technological skills. However, we have very limited access to computers!
My Philosophy:
My Personal Mission Statement: It is my responsibility to help my students become independent thinkers and responsible, ethical citizens of their school, community, and world. I will provide them the opportunity to develop the skills they need to be successful in school and in life. I will model a love of learning, respect for differing opinions, compassion for others, and a desire to make the world a better place for those who come after me.

About Me:
Teaching is my second career. After a successful career in Information Technology, I knew it was time to give back to my community. After my youngest child left home for the Air Force, I enrolled in South Carolina's Alternative Certification Program (PACE). I am now in my fourth year of teaching and love every minute of it!
College and Degrees:
I have a B.A. in Mathematics from Coker College in Hartsville, SC and am currently working on my Masters in Technology in the Classroom.
Activities:
I love reading (when I have time) and visiting the coast.

Interests:
I am a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and love to watch football!
Employment History:
This is my fourth year teaching Math at Hickory Tavern Middle School in Gray Court, SC. Prior to this, I worked in Information Technology in the corporate world for 15 years.
Why Do I Teach?:
To make a difference!!!
