Class Information:
Room Number: k1
Students per Class: 25
Class Description:
This is a moderate to severe special day class for children with Autism and other developmental delays such as cerebral palsy, down syndrome, Angelman's syndrome, etc. This children are given the opportunity to eat and play with typically developing children through out the day. We focus on early intervention so that eventually our kids can be ready for general education classrooms and meet academic expectations!
Position:
Speech Language Pathologist
Needs:
I work with students with complex communication needs. This means that my students often have to rely on Alternative and Augmentative means of communication such as I-pads and speech output applications. Since I am a low income school - we often have to borrow from the district to meet our student's needs. When the school is able to own a device such as an ipad - our students are able to use these devices immediately in their class every single day! These speech output devices are incredibly helpful in allowing our students to begin talking and interacting with the rest of the class! Additionally, they are able to learn better.
My Philosophy:
I am a speech language pathologist at LAUSD. I love love love to work with children with complex communication needs. I fully believe in early intervention and inclusion of students with many different abilities and disabilies. The earlier these students have access to communication devices, the faster they are able to communicate with others, participate in class, and learn new concepts! I really want my preschool and kindergarten students to have this foundation before moving on the academic and social rigors of Elementary school!
