Class Description:
In June, I will complete four years of serving as an instructional technology coach for the teachers in my district, and I will return part-time to the English classroom. I will finally get to use some of the amazing strategies that I have been encouraging my colleagues to adopt. I hope that by leading by example, I will be able to enlist many teachers in using digital tools as a natural part of instruction. By blogging about my experiences and sharing all lesson plans online, I hope to extend my discoveries to teachers all over the world. It's an ambitious goal!

Needs:
I need advanced software for screen-casting so I can create professional quality instructional screen-casts. I am requesting this software through a local grant. I also need a camera to record traditional video, and I am requesting that here. Most of all, I need every student to have access to a laptop every day. I am relying on my district to provide this need.
My Philosophy:
Kids learn when a passionate teacher loves the material and cares about the students. Kids respond to an authentic challenge, and it is the teacher's job to find relevance and authenticity in every lesson. Technology is an integral learning tool. We need to get away from technology as an "add-on" so we can see its true purpose -- the essential vehicle for productivity and creativity.

Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I love to learn. When I am engaged in study, asking questions and making discoveries, I experience a deep satisfaction. I teach because this is how learning should feel for everyone, and it is my pleasure to create a beautiful environment for my students so they can experience joy in learning.
