I teach middle school students the importance of Ancient Civilizations. We begin with Archaeology and use that knowledge to closely examine prehistoric humans and then move to the history, culture and geography of ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Israel, Phoenicia, Greece and Rome.
Position:
Social Studies Teacher
Needs:
Currently my classroom does not meet the needs of the 21st century student. To be a fully functional classroom students require a mounted projector, SMART board, television/DVD player and access to classroom computers.
My Philosophy:
History is fun! Making history relevant to students while also maintaining an interactive classroom environment is imperative. As a teacher you have to meet every student at their individual level of learning and build from there.
Personal Information:
College and Degrees:
I have a Bachelors of Arts in Journalism and Women's Studies and a Masters of Education with a concentration in History from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Favorite Books:
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
Favorite Quotes:
Live well, laugh often and love much.
Interests:
I enjoy reading, yoga, museums, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Employment History:
I have three years experience in my current position of a middle school Social Studies teacher and one year experience teaching intensive special needs students.
Why Do I Teach?:
In my sixth grade yearbook under "Career Goals" I wrote Teacher/Writer. Today I am fulfilling that dream by teaching my own sixth graders! I teach middle school because I love working with children, am passionate about history and thrive in a fast paced working environment.
