I teach science and social studies to approximately 70 students during a typical school day. My classes are divided into three blocks of about 24 students each. My students are evenly split between girls and boys and ethnicity.
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
Unfortunately because of the times we're in, the poverty rate at my school is a little high. That is where our new technology initiative comes in. Many students that suffer from poverty also have few opportunities to experience up-to-date technology and its modern applications. Our school has made a fundamental commitment to changing that sad statistic for all of our Junior Redbirds, however, we need a little help. Computers and peripherals are being installed as we speak and faculty training is on the way. The only thing we do not have in the budget is money for cameras and accessories. However, with the support of Digitalwish and some gracious donors, my wishlist will become a reality, at least in my classroom.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I have been with the Alton School District for twelve years and for most of it I have taught social studies and science.
College and Degrees:
I have three degrees, two undergraduate and one graduate. I received the first Bachelors Degree in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Advertising and Public Relations. The second was in Social Studies with Teacher Certification. My third degree is a Masters in Educational leadership through which I earned my type 75 Administration Certification.
Why Do I Teach?:
There is no better reward than making connections with students. At the moment their eyes light up with understanding, I get an internal smile that carries me through the rest of my day. Everyday is different than the day before and every student is special in his or her own way, making teaching the only career there is on the planet truly worth the hard work!
